Hired at Syft because senior management felt that my experience and attitude would be essential to creating their software team.
We were developing control software for new type of mass spectrometer, and as well as the more familiar engineering tasks this involved research and implementation of international standards for scientific instrument control.
While there I championed and fostered agile methodologies to the team and management, and also created and maintained development and source-control standards as well as created and administered company’s source control and issue tracking systems.

2001 – 2002 (1 year)

I was part of a team developing a new commercial database engine. This involved distributed processing on multiple platforms, creating, using and benchmarking new algorithms for the database.
I wrote and maintained company-wide c++ library components for socket communication and multithreading on both Windows and UNIX.
I also created and maintained development and source-control standards.

I worked in small team developing software that analyses workstations of various manufacturers and OS's for installed software, hardware and other data. Part of my role was to port the software to Linux, allowing the company to expand into this new market.

I played role of technical lead on projects at this financial services company, and was responsible for all design and technology decisions on the software I was involved in. I also had a role in mentoring and training other developers in the company.
I was a key on-site company representative on remote mission-critical projects; this involved face-to-face liaison with clients at every step of the life cycle.

1997 – 1998 (1 year)

I assisted in the design, review and upgrade of company foundation library code used for all development, ensuring full compliance with all relevant Internet standards.
I worked on a number of back-end internet/database projects, using both perl and c++, and designed and implemented company-wide framework to allow quick and easy creation of SMTP servers by overloading functions. Initially used in application to detect SMTP bounces and update a database accordingly.
I also developed company-wide class hierarchy for cached DNS MX lookup, and assisted in development of industrial-strength SMTP client.
